Editors in Spirit
In the first days of Freelance there were several editors until Kath Shaw took on the job. It was during her editorship that the typewriter on the cover was added and, while it may seem old-fashioned now, it is instantly recognisable and a majority of members voted recently to retain it for the cover.
When Kath became ill, others took on the job but due to other commitments none could continue.
When Kath died, Gordon Wills Johnson was asked to take over temporarily. He retained the position for 14 years. It was during Gordon's editorship that Freelance changed from an A4 newsletter to the A5 booklet it is today. When his own declining health meant he could no longer keep up with the work, the position passed to Alyson B. Cresswell.
