Frequent questions
- What do I get for my membership?
- Your subscription makes you a member of our association. It also entitles you to direct help from the editor and other members, use of the membership stickers that many Freelancers find effective (the continuing demand for these stickers shows that many editors are taking these seriously), and other services. You also get original, helpful articles from experienced, professional writers who supply these to help newer members and to answer their queries. Through NZFWA you have the help and support of other members, whose actions show the practical truth of our motto: "Writers Helping Writers".
- I need some help with a specific problem to do with my writing.
- Our "Write of Reply" is a section in the magazine where you can have your say, ask any questions about writing, or tell others of writing opportunities.
- Do you publish information that covers my area of interest?
- We ask members to let us know if they have a specific area of interest, so we can be sure that we are providing information and help in as many areas as possible.
- I’ve written something about writing. Will you publish it?
- We will look at what you've written. That is not a guarantee of publication in Freelance. Your best chance of being published with us is to read our guidelines and make sure you follow them. If your subject is of interest to our members, we will consider your work. We do not publish fiction or poetry.
- Will you pay me when you publish my work?
- Yes. NZFWA survives only on members’ subscriptions, so our payrates are low, but we believe that if you put the time into producing good work, then we should pay for it.
- How do I obtain back copies of Freelance?
- Back copies of Freelance are still available. Cost: NZ$3.00 each (2 issues for NZ$5.00) from the Editor. Contact us for more information.
