Guidelines for Submissions

The target audience for Freelance is anyone with an interest in writing; therefore we look for articles that are related to the craft of writing. We do not publish fiction or poetry.

Maximum word lengths are:

  • single page article — 450 words;
  • double page article — 950 words.

Please do not expect to offer an article any longer than these limits — it will not be accepted.

If you have an idea for an article, please contact the editor. Do not send unsolicited submissions.

If you are given the go-ahead to submit your article, please take note of the following:

Email submissions:
Single-spaced typing is acceptable, but please double-space between paragraphs. Copy and paste your article into the body of the email — attachments will not be opened. Your name, the article’s title and word count must all be given.
Street-mail submissions:
The manuscript is to be typed, double-spaced on one side only of A4 paper, 2.5cm margins all round. The first line of each paragraph to be indented 5 spaces — no extra double-line space between paragraphs. Your name, title, word count all to be given on the first page, title of article and page number on every following page. An SASE must be enclosed — or send a disposable ms. and supply an email address for notification.
All submissions
Please carefully proofread your work. Don’t rely solely on your computer’s spelling and grammar checker. Freelance is published quarterly, so there are only a certain number of articles required each year.

Thank you for reading our guidelines.
