Trust God, Keep the Faith by Bartha Hill

Trust God, Keep the Faith tells the story of Guido de Bres, author of the Belgic Confession, and a martyr.

During the 16th century the Reformation swept across Europe. As common people learnt to read they began to question the beliefs and practices of the Roman Church. By imprisonment, torture and cruel deaths the priests attempted to persuade these rebels to return to the church.

Guido de Bres authored many works to help ordinary people understand basic Bible teaching. For this he was martyred. His works are still read and studied today.

This book tells of his exiting adventures while dodging the authorities and always in danger from spies - constantly on the run, yet preaching and teaching in attics, fields and prisons.

Originally written for older children, this story is also enjoyed by adults.

In New Zealand buy it from Bartha Hill, 3 McMillan Street, Maori Hill, Dunedin, 9010. Price $12.50 plus $2.50 P&P.

Published by Inheritance Publications, Neerlandia, Alberta, Canada; 2011. ISBN 978-0-921100-10-2.

Battle of the Birds, by Lee Murray

Ever been homesick? Ever been overseas, and desperate for marmite, meat pies and your best mates?

Annie, 11, faces a long boring summer in Wisconsin. Lying on a mound in the library grounds, she's daydreaming of home when the eagle-shaped mound breaks free from the earth and flies back to New Zealand. But it's not a New Zealand Annie is familiar with, and when she and her new friend Moana encounter a giant moa, Annie realises why. The eagle has flown her back to New Zealand, but she's a thousand years too early, arriving right in the middle of a battle between the birds.

Can Annie and her friends help the flightless overcome the flying predators led by the raptor, Te Hōkioi? Will gentle Moa survive to live on in history? And will Annie make it back to Wisconsin?

Battle of the Birds blends fact and fiction in an action adventure for children, exploring New Zealand's bird life, flight and migration, democracy, and friendship.

'The battle scene is so good - one of the best I have ever read and a great climax to the story.' Barbara Murison.

A SILENT SIN, A NOVEL BY FELICITY LOGAN

One lie is told, leading to an alarming predicament for Rosetta. Pregnant, she is abandoned by a bigamist in 1861 London. Heading for one of the colonies, she falls victim to a swindler. Follow Rosetta to New Zealand, sharing her adjustments and tragedies. A Silent Sin is based on the life of the author's great-great-grandmother. Few basic facts are known: content stolen from the lives of others of the time fills the 342 pages with historical authenticity - and by chance some of it may be true. The author knows she is descended from a bigamist. But which one was it?
